For Bermuda, we recommend videos from “How To With Doc”. He has a website and a YouTube channel that we've linked below.
For Empire Zoysia, we recommend the “Lawn Care Nut”. He also has an extensive website with a newsletter, an app, and also has informative YouTube videos.
Empire Zoysia & Geo Zoysia
For Empire Zoysia and Geo Zoysia, we recommend Sod Solutions. They propagated the original cultivar for these grasses, thus they have the most up-to-date information on how to treat them.

It depends on the hours of sun your yard receives, and the amount of work you’d like to do to maintain the grass.
If you have a shady area that receives anywhere from 3-6 hours of sun, we recommend one of our Zoysia grasses. Geo Zoysia is a fine-blade that can tolerate 3-4 hours of sun (but also thrives in full sun, too). Empire Zoysia is a strong, hardy wide-blade that can tolerate 5-6 hours of sun per day (also thrives in full sun). Each of these are slow growing, but still need to be mowed quite low (½ inch to 1 ½ inches) in order to maintain a healthy lawn.
If you have full sun in your yard, any of our grasses will do well, but especially the Bermuda (Tifway 419) will be successful in 8-12 hours of sun. It is very hardy, tolerates foot traffic well, and is grows quickly. It establishes itself further by growing “runners” laterally across the ground. Those runners in turn establish roots and then propagate more Bermuda.
The key to measuring your yard is to calculate the length and width of your yard. This will help you find the total area of your yard, stated as “area squared”. The math here is Length x Width = Area Squared. Although yards are not often perfectly square or rectangular, you can estimate the amount of grass you need by breaking your yard down into rectangular sections and multiplying the length times width of all sections. If you have an oddly shaped yard, please use our area calculator found here: areacalculator.sodsolutions.com.
